This year has truly been an educational experience for the FECC. At times, our efforts have appeared to be less than successful and we have been frustrated. At other times, we have been elated by our ability to seek and receive information and/or support. We must ALWAYS remember that government is designed to move forward slowly and cautiously. Here are some of our successes to keep in mind.

Following our Petition/Survey, discussion of the multi-million dollar Bond ceased.
Thus far, there has not been a second hearing on the questionable Water Control Plan.
The grandiose and highly misrepresented Water Treatment Facility plans have been tabled . The misbegotten funds have been reallocated.
Board positions are now voluntary.
The District ambition to raise the assessment from $325 per acre to $660 and then to $1,000 has been thwarted. In fact, a small roll-back was achieved.
Focus has shifted from the District expanding its power and area of control to thinking about flood control and adequate maintenance.
Attention has been drawn to serious maintenance shortcomings.
We have gotten them to consider other ideas. Some District Staff and Board have spoken favorably about the FECC Platform.
Our watch-dog efforts have drawn attention to the fact that those who shield themselves with the cloak of Statute 298 are as subject to that law as we are.
We, the People, have become an informed constituency who are better able to look after our own best interests instead of blindly following those whose interests are more in personal preservation and personal profit.
The FECC regularly communicates with other government entities and attends meetings to gain better perspective on our issues. These include Florida Department of Environmental Protection, St. John’s River Water Management District, Florida Department of Community Affairs and University of Florida -IFAS to name a few.
We have become the solution. We have learned to succeed within the existing legal framework.
We are open in all our endeavors. Even though it is tempting to behave in an unprofessional or condescending manner in response to how we are treated, we continue to strive to remain on the higher moral ground.
George Nelson, who ran on the FECC Platform, is the Vice-President of the Flagler Estates Road and Water Control District Board of Supervisors. It will take two members to be truly effective. We need your continuing support.

These items listed above are a just sampling of what we have accomplished. There are many more successes on the horizon. We must remain vigilant. As they like to remind us, they can change their minds at any time.
