Dear Neighbor,

“Taxation without representation” was the underlying reason American patriots took up arms and freed themselves from British rule.  For the past several decades, Flagler Estates residents and landowners have found themselves faced with a similarly oppressive situation.

According to the state governor’s office,  our three-person Board of Supervisors has more power than the governor and receives virtually no oversight.  They determine the assessment you pay in addition to St. Johns County taxes and are responsible for the recent increase of a whopping 63%! Although they are “elected” by landowners, most past elections has been manipulated by a select few through the controlled use of proxies and limited information.  These are the circumstances that prompted a large group of volunteer residents to come together and form the FECC.

Flagler Estates Concerned Citizens (the “FECC”) is a non-profit organization of resident landowners who have tasked themselves with oversight of the Road and Water Control District and its Board of Supervisors. Through our research and efforts, we have learned that the only time that we landowners have power is once per year at the landowner meeting. All other choices and actions that are made are the option of the elected board.  Often, our voices and opinions go unheard. We have taken issue with many Board actions and have been  open and honest with them. Many of the issues the FECC has undertaken are discussed on our website at www.flaglerestatesconcernedcitizens.org, while the District’s take on matters can be found at www.ferwcd.org.

We encourage you to take every opportunity to educate yourself on the issues through our websites. We encourage those who can, to show up at the landowner meeting on June 5th 2010 @ 10:00 a.m. 9850 Light Ave. to cast your vote.

If you cannot cast your vote in person, please view our website or contact us. We strongly urge you to make an educated vote. It is better not to vote at all than to vote without enough information.

Please find included on this site a copy of the proxy, the FECC Platform and a list of our accomplishments.  Our proxy has several members' names listed. These are people who are educated on the local issues and hold the same financial investment as you do.  Please feel free to choose only one or add your own on the "Other” line.  We will be casting our votes collectively on a new board member who will represent the FECC Platform.
